President’s Year-End Message

President’s Year-End Message

Dear Colleagues,
As 2017 draws to a close, it is time to reflect on 2017 and welcome 2018. 2017 was great, 2018 will be even greater and amazing things will manifest.
Because of the continues effort given by members, SAHAMM has been developing maturely. It is important for us to use our time and move forward as decisively and swiftly as we can in 2018 and that will only be possible with the support from members and I will like to thank you all for your significant support.

The year ahead will bring its own challenges but I am sure by working together, keeping focused on our priorities and our mission and vision, we can realize our goals. These will certainly be my priorities and I am convinced I can count on you all to do the same.

I would like to also take this opportunity to thank all of my Executive committee and staff of SAHAMM for all the effort and hard work they have put in in 2017 to make our programs a success.

As the New Year dawns, I hope it gets filled with the promises of a brighter tomorrow for you and your family. While most will welcome the new year praying and wishing for Happiness, Wealth and Prosperity, we at SAHAMM would like to add Health as one of the wishes and would prefer to make this the first one. So on behalf of SAHAMM let me wish every one of you with us, around and within us A HEALTHY 2018. We should strive to educate and empower ourselves with the medical and spiritual knowledge to help people live healthier and longer. Let us practice good and healing medicine to help reverse diseases for those who seek our help .

This talk is open to everyone who is interested. Please feel free to invite your colleagues, friends and  your patients whom you feel will benefit from this talk.

Topics covered will be on:

TOPIC:   i)    ADRENAL FATIGUE – The Many Faces
Adrenal fatigue is a collection of signs and symptoms, known as a syndrome, that results when the adrenal glands function below the necessary level.

TOPIC:  ii)    CANCER: Earliest Detection & The Ultimate Truth
Countless lives could be saved from Cancer if we simply found the disease earlier.  The same is true for other forms of the disease too. Not recognizing the underlying causes of cancer is the reason why we don’t see a better success rate in treating cancer.  The earliest known descriptions of cancer dates back to the early 19th century and this needs to be reviewed and understood if we want to win the battle over cancer. Early detection is the absolute best form of prevention when it comes to Cancer.

For Nutritional Certification Course  participants its FOC and for Nonparticipants  a fee of RM150 will be charged.  Payment can be done on-site either by cash/cheque (made out to SAHAMM) or credit card during registration.

Case Study – by Dr. Azizan Abdul Aziz

33 year old Filipino ladyworking as a babysitter to twins for the past 3 years.Just got married 3 months ago.Came with complaints of severe facial acne and irregular period ranging from 35 to 62 days for the last 2 years.Associated with abdominal pain, backache, grumpy, forgetful and tired in the morning during her period. However, no history of constipation.

On examination: Severe acne on whole face.Height: 147.5cm,Weight: 50kg, BMI: 23

A Blood test done 12/2/15( at another medical centre) on Day 8 showed:

Hb: 12.9g/dl, FBS: 4.4mmol/L,Fasting Serum Insulin: 7uU/ml

Tot. cholesterol: 5.5mmol/L,HDL-C: 1.3mmol/L;LDL-C:4.0 mmol/L:TG: 0.5mmol/L

TSH: 1.220 mIU/L; FT4: 17.9 pmol/L; FT3: 5.3pmol/L

Serum Cortisol (9.25am): 325nmol/L

DHEA SO4: 7.6 umol/L

Serum Testosterone: 2.4 nmol/L

SHBG:45.3 nmol/L

Serum Oestradiol: 156pmol/L

Serum Progesterone 1.8nmol/L

IGF-1: 241ng/ml

Discussion on case:

Working in a foreign country, and taking care of twins from birth is  very stressful. This could lead to hormonal imbalance from improper dietary intake of proper macro and micro nutrients and insufficient sleep.

Thus management of case is through lifestyle changes.

1)      Diet : reduce refine carbohydrate,coffee, sugar.

Avoid the above first thing in the morning, especially as it would affect hyperglycaemic hormones production like Cortisol, Estradiol,DHEA, IGF-1 etc. with increase blood sugar level with the above food intake.Eat sufficient protein ,essential fatty acids to assist in hormone production.Sufficient fruits and vegetables.

2)      Supplement with Zincand Chromium.  This is helpful in acne management.

3)      Appropriate topical acne skin care

4)      Hormone supplementation.

Hormone profile should aim at 75th centile of the reference range given by the lab to be optimal.

The serum FT4, Cortisol, Oestradiol and Progesterone are not optimal.

The symptoms such as morning fatigue, menstrual irregularities, poor memory, mood changes could be due to relatively low thyroid levels.  Thus starting patient on:

  1. i) Thyroxine, using Oroxine 50ugm on waking up in the morning daily. Start on low dose and monitor for palpitation in patient.
  2. ii) Since patient is stressed chronically, mood changes occurs. Thus supplementation with natural steroid such as Hydrocortisone 10mg on morning will be helpful.  This will also help patient to tolerate thyroid hormone supplementation when the Cortisol level is low.  If patient is put on Hydrocortisone (catabolic hormone), an anabolic hormone has to be put on to balance the anabolic-catabolic process such as Oestradiol, Progesterone, DHEA where indicated pending on hormone levels.

iii)      Oestradiol and Progesterone are low.

This could contribute to menstrual irregularities, mood changes, abdominal pain, backache.

Start treatment with micronized Progesterone, Utrogestan 100mg before bedtime from Day 20 to 30 initially (in view of her menstrual cycle vries from 35 to 62 days).  Progesterone is given during the second half of menstrual cycle.

5)      Expose to morning Sun and ensure adequate sleep.Regular followup is required to review patient’s symptomatology and repeat hormone level where necessary.

In this case, the patient has stopped working and gone back to her home country.

Vaccinations & Vitamin C : The Way I See Health Care

Some vaccines need to be given at some point in our life to prevent  diseases that can have devastating effects on the quality of life eg. Poliomyelitis. In some instances, it can be life threatening eg.Small Pox. It is also possible that some infections acquired during pregnancy can have teratogenic effects eg. Rubella. So vaccination is necessary, but perhaps some if not all the vaccines that are given in recent times. So, I am not against vaccination. What I would suggest is the following:

  1. Delay the vaccination till the infant is 6 months old when the innate gut immune system begins to mature
  2. Space out the vaccination so that there is a less toxic burden to the infant ‘s body.
  3. Giving vaccines when necessary in isolation would be better.

This is important because recently, vaccines are given in combination, sometimes up to 7 types of vaccines in a single shot

What I am concerned also is the presence of heavy metals (Mercury or Aluminium) as a preservative. Of course the manufacturers will defend this presence of heavy metals by claiming that the amount is very minimal in the vaccines. It is still worrying. One is that they are not natural to the  body  in any amount. Second is that they are cumulative when given repeatedly as the newborn may lack the ability to detoxify and excrete these heavy metals.

All said and done,if and when the vaccination is given the child needs to be protected. The best, safest and most powerful natural protection comes from Vitamin C.The fact that we humans are unable to manufacture Vitamin C in our body, unlike animals predisposes us to Infections, Cancers, susceptibility to toxins, etc. This basic knowledge has never been emphasized in our quest to conquer infections and cancers  and it is not mentioned in any medical textbooks, deliberately I believe!Vitamin C is the most potent non specificAnti toxin that we have. However, we hardly use it.By non specific, I mean it works against almost all toxins, including snake and insect venoms, heavy metals, chemicals etc.The evidence for the benefits of VitaminC in humans and even the domesticated animals is not lacking and there are more than one hundred thousand studies available that validate this effect but at the same time there are also studies that contradict these claims.Studies that fail to prove the benefits of Vitamin C failed simply because the dose used was too small and the duration of treatment was too short.

In order to benefit from Vitamin C therapy in an acute and chronic infections, acute poisoning or in the prevention of toxicity or infections as a prophylaxis, some simple rules need to be followed. The dose of Vitamin C as a routine daily supplement differs vastly and can be tens of times higher in Infections, Cancers, Trauma,Toxic Exposure etc.  The rules that need to be followed for success are:

  1. The treatment needs to be initiated EARLY ENOUGH
  2. The dosage should be HIGH ENOUGH
  3. The dosing should be FREQUENT ENOUGH
  4. And the treatment should be LONG ENOUGH

Failure to follow these simple rules is the reason why sceptics are never convinced.  Any child who needs to be vaccinated should be given Vitamin C before, during and after the vaccination to reduce the side effects and the toxicity from the heavy metals present. Even Cerebral Irritation which is rarely reported can be avoided by initiating Vitamin C prophylaxis in sufficient  doses before, during and after the vaccination .
