This is the final series of weight loss articles. To me, this is the most important aspect about losing weight. You can do all the previous six steps in weight loss, without this final critical step, you will most likely fail to achieve your ideal weight. Interestingly, the previous six steps in weight loss, if adhered strictly, to some degree will improve your hormones balance. Unfortunately, depending on your age, hormones adjustment may be eventually needed to make you ‘slim’ again. No doubt about that.
Let me tell you some of the most important hormones which influence your weight and fat accumulation.
The most important hormone is thyroid. Thyroid hormoneis responsible for metabolic process in your body. It burns calories and fat. If your thyroid hormone is low or for some reason is less active, you will gain weight no matter what. Most people are in ‘subclinical hypothyroidism’ condition. This is a condition where your thyroid is performing less than it should be but still within normal range when your blood test is done. You will unfortunately have a tough time to convince your doctor that you are having this problem base on your blood result alone. However, there are various signs in your body to confirm this and being overweight is just one of them.
The second important hormone is cortisol. Cortisol regulates your sugar and fat consumption in your body. Too much or too little of this hormones will cause weight gain. The problem is, the normal range are vastly differs for individual. Most people arehaving too much of cortisol hormone and this is due to unhealthy food and chronic stress. The trick for your doctors is to differentiate who is having too little and who is having too much. Again, the blood test tells very little. This is because cortisol level fluctuates notoriously throughout the day and yet blood test only captures single moment during blood taking. Without correcting this hormone, you will always be overweight!
Last but not least, testosterone hormone is needed to be at peak level especially for man and no less important in woman. Testosterone builds muscle and prevents fat accumulation. Man and woman have different levels in body. Again, most laboratory ranges are accepting ‘normal’ as those level found in overweight man and woman. This is probably because 95 per cent of human are overweight anyway (laboratory takes 95% of collected values from human blood test as normal). Most man and woman beyond 35 years of age are already below their peak testosterone hormone level. Your peak testosterone level is what you have when you were slim and robust at 18 to 23 years of age.
If you are always overweight or becomes overweight lately, I bet one or all of these three hormones are inappropriate for your age. I guess, it is now the time for you to visit your anti-aging trained doctor and get some hormone corrections.
